Abstract/Summary

An archaeological investigation was undertaken in October 2017 during the early stages of a residential development at New Court Farm, Tilston Road, Malpas. The priniciple purpose was to explore the eastern area of the development site close to where a new access route into the site from the B5395 Tilston Road, had been created. Tilston Road is on the line of the former Roman road that once linked Wroxeter with the legionary fortress at Chester, via Whitchurch. Although much of the area of the access route had been previously excavated, there was an opportunity to explore the area of land close to the eastern boundary of the site. Two linear trenches were excavated, orientated east-west and measuring 7m by 1.5m and 5m by 1.5m respectively. No archaeological features or deposits were encountered.
