Abstract/Summary

Heritage statement and photographic survey produced for the former water-powered corn mill, Kingsley Mill, Mill Lane, Kingsley. This is not a nationally listed building, but is locally listed. The proposed development of the this site comprises the demolition of the watermill and associated buildings and their replacement with a new residential development of five houses, a new car park for the existing café (the former mill house) and animal feed businesses, and the extension of the existing associated warehouse. The mill pond is located to the north-west of the complex but is no longer actually part of the site. A mill has occupied this site since the thirteenth century, but the existing mill dates from the seventeenth century with nineteenth century and later additions. The buildings on site indicate a combined industrial and residential use. The mill has undergone numerous alterations which have resulted in the loss of large amounts of historic fabric and changes to its plan.
