Abstract/Summary

Unpublished article written for JCAS summarising the results of excavations undertaken on land between Brook Street and Raby Road, Neston, in 2009 by AOC Archaeology. Residual medieval pottery and ceramic building material recovered from the site are the first medieval artefacts found within the town and suggest that a medieval building was located close to the site. The post medieval remains encountered are thought to represent an eighteenth century farmstead which was re-built in the Victorian period. The assemblage of post medieval pottery demonstrates Neston's strong domestic trade links with North Devon and international trade with Spain, France, Germany and the Netherlands during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
