Abstract/Summary
Archaeological watching brief comprising three phases of work carried out during topsoil stripping for the extension of Arclid Quarry. The work was undertaken in October 2015, June 2016 and August to September 2016. The area of interest comprised two arable fields located to the south and west of the existing quarry, some 80,000 square metres in total.
Removal of the topsoil revealed an extensive land drain network. Patches of marl were identified along with the presence of extent marl pits in the north-eastern extent of the area. A former marl pit was also recorded in the centre of the excavated area. Three ditches were identified, two of which may represent former field boundaries. Also a circular feature, thought to be a pond was observed. No other significant features or deposits were identified.
