Abstract/Summary
Archaeological desk-based assessment produced in February 2017 for three properties at 83-89 Foregate Street, Chester, prior to development of the site. Although there are no designated archaeological assets within the study area, and just one non-designated site relating to a 19th century brewery, the potential for encountering archaeological remains of the Roman period and later is considered high. The street frontage has the potential for the survival of the remains of timber and stone buildings from the Roman period onwards, and towards the rear of the site, there is the potential for 'backplot' activities. As well as the possibility of deep and complex archaeological stratigraphy, there is also the potential of encountering water-logged deposits.
