Source/Archive record SCH7861 - Archaeological Watching Brief Report: Hallows Drive, Kelsall

Report detailing an archaeological watching brief undertaken during groundworks for a residential development at Hallows Drive, Kelsall. This work followed on from archaeological geophysical, topographic and metal-detecting surveys. The site lies on the south-west edge of the village of Kelsall. There is some evidence for Prehistoric and later activity in the vicinity but not within the site area. The village of Keldall is thought to have been settled in the early Post Medieval period. A clay or sand extraction pit of likely Post Medieval date was recorded in the east of the site where a pond is shown on historic OS maps, and modern plough marks were seen in the centre of the site. Abraded pottery within the subsoil suggests that the site has been ploughed from the early Post Medieval period onwards.
