Source/Archive record SCH7853 - Archaeological Evaluation Report: Stone Cottage, Alpraham

An archaeological evaluation undertaken by L-P Archaeology to assess the impact of the proposed re-development of Stone Cottage, Alpraham, on a scheduled Bronze Age bowl barrow, Robin Hood's Trump, which lies immediately to the south of the development area. On the 8th September 2015 four trenches were excavated across the site in areas which may be impacted by the development. The trenches revealed natural drift deposits of sand and till. Cut into the natural deposits was a small pit containing evidence of Mesolithic flint working, this was sealed by a buried surface deposit. This surface deposit had been truncated in the late 20th century by the construction of a tennis court. Due to the proximity of the proposed development to Robin Hood's Tump there will be an impact on the setting of the monument.
