Abstract/Summary
Historic Environment Desk-Based Assessment produced in July 2015 by Cotswold Archaeology for INRG Solar Ltd for land at Royal Woods Farm, near Newhall. The proposed development site is circa 11ha in size and is located to the west of the village of Newhall.
No designated or non-designated heritage assets are recorded within the site boundary, but peat and alluvium deposits are present within the vicinity of the site and may extend into the site itself; these deposits have the potential to preserve prehistoric or Roman remains. Also the site is located in a sloping valley within the vicinity of a natural mere, the sort of landscape favoured by prehistoric/Roman communities.
A number of depressions are recorded within the site boundary and are thought to relate to quarry pits associated to brick making, therefore there is potential for 19th century industrial activity on site.
