Abstract/Summary

Desk-based assessment produced by CGMS Consulting on behalf of Hilson Moran Partnership Ltd for two parcels of land, 26.8ha in extent, at East Basford, Crewe. This land borders the Crewe Green Link Road which is currently under construction. No archaeological designated assets occur within the study area, however, two non-designated assets, Crotia Mill Pond and Mill Race (both infilled), are recorded within the area and accordingly there is potential for below ground remains associated with these features. Crotia Mill potentially has medieval origins. There is also low potential for below ground settlement evidence of medieval/post medieval date to exist, although it is thought likely that the land lay within agricultural fields associated with nearby medieval settlements and farmsteads.
