Abstract/Summary
In June and July 2015, Wardell Armstrong Archaeology was commissioned on behalf of their clients Taylor Wimpey (Manchester) and Seddon Homes to undertake a metal detector survey of land at Congleton Road, Sandbach prior to a proposed residential development. The finds recovered during the survey are of high archaeological potential, particularly the artefacts of Roman, medieval and Civil War date. Their recovery provides evidence of domestic and military activity in the vicinity of the site. The Roman finds are of particular importance as there is little Roman activity in and around Sandbach.
