Abstract/Summary
A site at Tall Ash Farm, Buglawton, nr Congleton, is proposed for development. There are no listed buildings on the site but there are listed buildings to the east of the site. Prehistoric finds have been recovered from the surrounding area, although none have been recovered from the site itself. The name Buglawton derives from the Old English hlaw and tun, meaning farmstead or settlement of the mound. The tradition name for Tall Ash Farm was the Low, another name for a mound. As such it is likely that the site is the location of an unknown Prehistoric mound or barrow. The historic research and map regression exercise indicates that no development has taken place on the site, apart from the construction of the farmhouse off Buxton Road, therefore, no archaeological features subsequent periods are expected to be encountered on the site. Targeted trenching of the high ground, alongside test sieving to identify the presence of buried archaeological features, is suggested as mitigation for the site as a condition of planning permission.
