The report represent the results of below-ground archaeological work and above ground. Recording of the standing stuctures of the Scheduled Monumnet of the Lion Salt Works. The results discussed are from the end of Stage 2b to 2d for the period January 2013 to March 2014 in accordance with a Project Design produced for Scheduled Monument Consent. The development scheme covers an area that includes the whole of the scheduled monument with the exception of the Coronation Salt Store and an area outside of the monument. Approximately two thirds forms part of Scheduled Monument (Scheduled Monument No 34985). The remainder of the site lies outside the area of the monument but is to be considered to form part of the contiguous monument. As the majority of the site lies within a Scheduled Monument the site as a whole should be considered nationally significant. This report includes a description of the results of a number of pieces of below-ground archaeological work undertaken between January and March 2013 which include a series of test pits undertaken to investigate the structural foundations of the historic core, excavations for foundations for Pan House 3, Stove House 3, Pan House 4, Stove House 4 and Stove House 1. This report also includes description of Historic Building Recording (HBR) of the peripheral buildings. The report will also include the results of work previously undertaken during the 2009 enabling works.
