| Author/Originator | Cheshire West and Chester |
| Report Number | N/A |
| Date/Year | 2011 |
Abstract/Summary
This Written Scheme of Investigation is concerned with requirements for archaeological work associated with the Lion salt Works, Marston, Northwich. This is to be undertaken as part of planning permission in advance of, and during the restoration of the Scheduled Monument and associated development work. This document was prepared in accordance with government advice contained in PPS5.
The development scheme covers an area that includes the whole of the scheduled monument with the exception of the Coronation Salt Store and an area outside of the monument. Approximately two thirds forms part of Scheduled Monument (Scheduled Monument No 34985). The remainder of the site lies outside the area of the monument but is to be considered to form part of the contiguous monument. As the majority of the site lies within a Scheduled Monument the site as a whole should be considered nationally significant. Therefore an appropriate programme of archaeological recording work consisting of a controlled watching brief, recording, post-excavation analysis and publication will be required throughout.
