Abstract/Summary
The following report represents the results of below-ground archaeological work and above-ground recording of the standing structures of the scheduled monument of the Lion Salt Works. The results discussed are from the end of Stage 2a for the period September to December 2012.
Full detailed descriptions of watching briefs during all below-ground archaeological investigations from September to December 2012 are reported. This includes investigations during the excavations of the brine shaft and investigations within the historic core. The report also includes detailed descriptions of stove house 1, pan house 2, stove house 2, the packing area, loading bay, walkway and chimneys 1 and 2. This again includes phased interpretation of the standing structures.
An assessment of the future potential of the work undertaken during this phase is also included that builds on the previous assessment undertaken at the end of Stage 1.
