| Title | Survey of the Walling Lands, Nantwich, by George Twigg, 1995 |
| Author/Originator | Twigg G |
| Date/Year | July 1995 |
Abstract/Summary
Letter to A.Tindall, County Archaeologist, from George Twigg, concerning his reconstruction of a plan of the walling lands on Snow Hill (updated plan included, April 1995). Includes Twigg's theories on the location/interpretation of the Common Cistern. One associates it with the ditch forming the boundary of the Domesday Wich. Another is that the Cistern would have provided a water supply to the salt houses on the west side of Great Wood Street. Alternatively, it could have been the wooden channel along which brine was distrubuted to the Wood Street salt houses.
