Abstract/Summary

Correspondence with the County Archaeologist regarding personal research undertaken by George Twigg into the 1624 Survey of the Walling Lands (salt houses), Nantwich. Research included production of a transcript of the original 1624 document contained within the Cholmondeley Papers, Cheshire Record Office. Also the production of a map of the salt houses detailed within the document. The correspondence contains discussion on various interventions in Nantwich and the discoveries relating to the salt industry, including the excavations at Wood Street, thoughts on the Common Cistern and many other things. In April 1995 Twigg produced an updated map (see SCH7370).
