Abstract/Summary
Desk based assessment on a section of the city walls adjacent to the Northgate following the discovery of a pair of chambers within the wall. This revealed that a pair of cottages was erected against the wall in the early 18th century. Following the construction of the steps in c.1810 at this location the cottages were demolished and the wall thickened substantially, and this included an open chamber with a large doorway, of unknkown function.
