| Author/Originator | AMEC |
| Report Number | R3329 |
| Date/Year | 2012 |
Abstract/Summary
This report has been produced for the purpose of contributing to the assessment of
archaeological and cultural heritage issues arising from EAW’s proposed scheme (EAW No.
11065) to refurbish an existing overhead electricity line (OHL) 4ZL between towers 4ZL001
and 4ZL047 from Capenhurst, Cheshire to Birkenhead, Merseyside.
It details the Level 1 desk-study and targeted Field Reconnaissance Survey (FRS) while
examining the cultural heritage interest of the tower route and investigating the potential
effects of the development upon both identified and as yet unidentified assets. As a result,
mitigation measures are proposed where necessary and highlighted in Table 1: Summary
Mitigation Table, below.
The appraisal has established that there is the potential for ground works associated with
access routes and work compounds to impact upon archaeological remains and cultural
heritage assets at 15 of the 48 towers on the 4ZL transmission line. Generic mitigation
measures should be put in place for all other towers; which, in all cases, is that the latest
access routes shown on the wayleaves plans must be adhered to at all times. These
proposals should be carried out as Level 2 Archaeological Consultation alongside and during
the proposed refurbishment works.
