Abstract/Summary
This desk-based assessment considers land approximately 7.37 hectares in extent to the
west of Warmingham Lane, Middlewich, Cheshire.
In accordance with government policy (Planning Policy Statement 5: Planning for the Historic Environment), this assessment draws together the available archaeological,
historic, topographic and land-use information in order to clarify the heritage significance and archaeological potential of the site.
There are no designated assets (Scheduled Ancient Monuments, Listed Buildings, Registered Parks and Gardens or Registered Battlefields) or undesignated archaeological assets within the proposed development site.
This desk-based assessment has established that the site has low/nil potential for any archaeological evidence from the prehistoric and Saxon/Post-Medieval periods. However, although no designated and undesignated archaeological assets have been recorded on the
site, there is low/moderate potential for sub-surface archaeological deposits from the Roman period to be present.
In light of the above, it is anticipated that further archaeological work may be required and it is suggested that the archaeological work can follow planning consent secured by an appropriately worded planning condition.
