Abstract/Summary
Desk-based assessment which considers the archaeological potential of a large (c 100ha) area of agricultural land focussed on Sutton New Hall Farm to the west of Ellesmere Port. The study draws heavily on an earlier assessment produced by UMAU (R2301) which led to a programme of field evaluation across part of the site (R2459). Key interest of the site centres on the hall, which appears to occupy the site ofan earlier medieval estate centre. Burials, perhaps associated with a chapel, were found when the hall was constructed in the early 19th century.
