Abstract/Summary

This archaeological desk-based assessment considers the archaeological potential of land approximately 4.4 hectares in extent to the west of Nantwich Road, Tarporley, Cheshire. In accordance with government policy (Planning Policy Statement 5: Planning for the Historic Environment), this assessment draws together the available archaeological, historic, topographic and land-use information in order to clarify the heritage significance and archaeological potential of the development site. There are no designated (Scheduled Ancient Monuments, Registered Parks and Gardens or Registered Battlefields) or undesignated assets within the proposed development site or nearby. Additionally, this assessment has considered the potential for as yet to be discovered archaeological assets within the development site boundary and concludes that the site has a low/nil archaeological potential for evidence of prehistoric, Roman or more recent date. In light of the above, it is concluded that the development will not have an impact on any archaeological assets; and as such, no mitigation measures are suggested in order to address archaeological issues on the site.
