Abstract/Summary
Vale Mill is a former textile mill at Priesty Fields in the Valley of the Howty Brook, southwest of the centre of Congleton. It was founded in 1822. Originally water powered and later converted to steam. It produced ribbons and silk originally and came to specialise in the latter. It is depicted on the 1845 tithe map of Congleton. This report that should any works take place, attention should be paid to the potential site of the wheel, boilers, chimney and to undertake a watching brief to locate early structures. Buildings on the site were involved in textile production until the 1980's.
