Abstract/Summary

The proposed redevelopment site does not contain, and would not affect the setting of, any Scheduled Monuments, listed buildings, Registered Parks and Gardens or Registered Historic Battlefields. A relatively large number of Roman finds are recorded in the study area, most of which derive from metal detecting. Although the development of the garden centre and house will have destroyed or severely truncated any archaeological remains which may have existed in its vicinity, it is considered that the remainder of the site has some potential for remains, particularly of the Roman period. Four lengths of hedgerow, shown as field boundaries on the Tithe Map dating from 1838 are to be regarded as importatn in terms of the regulations.
