Abstract/Summary
This site lies immediately to the north of the extensive Roman industrial settlement at Wilderspool, on the southern bank of a former meander of the river Mersey. Evaluation trenching following the submission of a planning application for the re-development of the former industrial area for housing revealed extensive disturbance across the site, although the former river side was identified. No Roman features were recognised and there was a complete absence of residual Roman material across the site. This suggests that the northern limits of the Roman settlement at Wilderspool lay beyond the southern limits of the site.
