Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by the University of Manchester Archaeological Unit at the site of St Mary the Virgin, Lymm, Cheshire. The excavation of a pipe trench to the south of the church revealed little archaeological information save for the construction of a brick burial vault containing lead coffins. Observations made in the interior of the church revealed both bedding material used to construct the floor of the present building, and concentration of stone and brickwork used to underpin the church's eighteenth century stone font; fabric used to construct this foundation may predate the founding of the modern church.
