Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in 2004 on land at King Street, Middlewich, prior to proposed redevelopment. This site was formerly the location of the town’s railway station and, more recently, had been used for a variety of light industrial processes. It lies within Middlewich’s area of Roman settlement and 19th-century records suggested the presence of wells and other features. In the event, truncation of the site proved to be much more severe than the surface topography suggested and all of the archaeologically sensitive strata had been removed during construction of the railway and associated sidings.
