Abstract/Summary

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in 2003 on land off Broomheath Lane, Tarvin, where an assemblage of flints have been recovered previously. Twelve trial trenches were excavated. A linear ditch was recorded in trenches 2, 4 and 8, which is thought to represent a previous field boundary. In trench 5, located in the north-west corner of the site, a corner of a possible rectangular ditch was recorded at the level of the undisturbed subsoil. Red sandstones were located at the base of the ditch and possibly formed a packing material for a timber palisade structure. A single musket ball was recovered from the topsoil.
