Abstract/Summary

Five sites identified within the proposed redevelopment area and comprise two groups of buildings by High Street and associated boundaries running across the redevelopment area from north to south. These sites are at least late 18th century in date, being shown on a map of Runcorn date 1782. As such the sites either belong to the period in which Runcorn was beginning to expand following the arrival of the Bridgewater canal or are of earlier date, prior to that industrial expansion. In either case they can be considered of local significance.
