Abstract/Summary
Following on from desk-top studies assessing the archaeological impact of the widening of the M6 motorway (ECH 3566), which identified 138 sites of archaeological/architectural and/or heritage interest within the study corridor, a programme of further evaluation was developed. Fieldwork strategies were prepared for 23 sites or areas, using a combination of five different techniques - fieldwalking, geophysical survey, earthwork survey, environmental sampling and trial trenching.
This report presents the results of a large part of this non-intrusive field work (see also SCH4295 and SCH4294, which present the results of the geophysical work and the earthwork surveys respectively). It also presents various further mitigation strategies deemed necessary for each site.
