Abstract/Summary
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in 1998 during groundworks for a hotel development on land at the junction of Holmes Chapel Road and Pochin Way, Middlewich (centring on SJ 713 666). Previous controlled archaeological work, particulary in the vicinity of Kinderton Hall to the north of Holmes Chapel Road, have demonstrated the proximity of important Roman and medieval remains. However, the results of the watching brief recorded no significant archaeological features or deposits within the development area. Across much of the site there has been previous disturbance/removal of deposits followed by the importation of thick deposits of clay, presumably undertaken as part of recent road improvements.
