Abstract/Summary
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in 1998 on land adjacent to Congleton Town Hall (SJ 860 629) during groundworks for a new development. An archaeological evaluation of the development site in July 1996 had already identified the existance of archaeological features and deposites dating to the medieval period and earlier. Three linear strip foundation trenches were excavated and a substantial ditch of unknown date and function recorded.
