Title Report on an Archaeological Watching Brief at Welsh Row, Nantwich, Cheshire.
Author/Originator
Report Number
Date/Year 1997

Abstract/Summary

A watching brief during development discovered two large, dressed sandstone blocks which may be part of the back wall of the former Townsend House, which was built in 1575 but fell into disuse in the 19th century. Test pits on the site located natural subsoil at depths of between 0.2m to 2m but as the site was apparently subsequently built up and the depths were not related to the Ordnance Datum this observation is of little value in determining the likely depth of natural subsoil at present day (1). Note NGR has been altered from that in report (SJ64615245) as the report NGR lies outside the boundary of the development area.
