| Date/Year | 1998 |
Abstract/Summary
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in 1998 on land at Chester road, Sandiway, prior to a proposed residential development of circa 2.5 ha in area. Four trial trenches were positioned close to the southern extent of the development area to investigate the presence of archaeological remains, in particular 'Watling Street', a Roman road linking Chester and Manchester, and thought to potentially align with the existing A556 Chester Road. However, neither the Roman road, nor any related features, were identified.
