Abstract/Summary
Geophysical survey undertaken on 16/09/1996 for a site on the east side of the A530, approximately 500m south of its junction with the A556. The survey strip lay within the construction easement for a new gas pipeline and covered parts of two fields which were level and under rough grass at the time of survey. Although there were known archaeological sites within the area of investigation, the eastern extremity of the proposed development impinges on a field thought to contain a nineteenth century brick kiln, although its precise location is uncertain.
Major problems were encountered during the survey due to the presence of the newly laid gas main. The area available for investigation was reduced because of the strong magnetic anomalies associated with the ferrous pipe and also other disturbance resulting from the excavation for the pipe. Only one anomaly was located but the results suggest that this may represent another pipe or cable run, not a kiln.
