Abstract/Summary
Excavations started in July 1974 at the rear of No's 13 and 15, Mill Street. A dump was found at the bottom of the two gardens containing cinders, then bricks and tiles; pottery dating between the 18th-20th centuries, also clay tobacco pipe, were found in the lower layers. A deposit of hard soil, circa 64cms deep, was found at the bottom of the dump; it contained sherds of medieval pottery. An 18th century brick-built drain was also found at the edge of the dump at a depth of 23cm, this came from the back kitchen of No. 15 where it divided off in a Y-section to house No.'s 13 and 17.
