Summary

A Second World War Heavy Anti Aircraft battery. Anti aircraft batteries are sites where guns are placed with the purpose of shooting down enemy aircraft. They could contain large calibre guns such as modified artillery cannons (heavy anti aircraft sites), or small calibre guns such as machine guns (light anti-aircraft sites), or a combination of both. The battery is know to have been operating from 1941 to 1942 and incorporated fire control radar, which was an advanced feature for the period. The site was later used to house POWs. Only the battery control centre survives. Adjacent is a Cold War anti aircraft battery which is recorded by the CPAT Regional HER.
