Full Description
Excavations at Heronbridge 1930-31 by Dr J A Petch, on east side of Watling Street.Various stone buildings revealed, including north wall of one building 25.6m long, running E-W, with a paved floor-probably a workshop or shed.Date of building c.AD 100-160. To north and south are four furnaces or corndrying kilns. Nearly 5m north of the first stone building was a second stone building c.7m x 8m, with a doorway 3m wide on east side. On either side of the doorway the wall overlay earlier 'industrial' features and it may have been later in date than the longer building to the south. Probably use ended in mid 3rd century (1).
