Monument record 4069/0/4 - Bombing Decoy Site at Austerson Hall - Hack Green
Please read our guidance about the use of Cheshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Permanent bombing decoy and a control shelter. Bombing decoys were often made of electrical lights and fires of various sizes that were designed to try and deceive enemy aircraft into thinking that they were above a major target such as an industrial city. They therefore acted as passive defence for vulnerable areas. The control shelters were heavily constructed buildings designed to protect the crew and control machinery of the decoys, often also containing the generator for the electricity.
