Monument record 4079/1/7 - Infantry Post at Saughall Road
Please read our guidance about the use of Cheshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
This is the site of a destroyed infantry post. These were structures designed to provide cover for infantry in a similar way to pillboxes, however they did not necessarily have roofs. Pillboxes are small squat buildings with thick concrete walls and roof. They were designed as defensive structures, accommodating a variety of firearms ranging from rifles to anti-tank guns. They were normally used to defend vulnerable or sensitive areas such as airfields and factories and were built in Britain during World War 2.
