Monument record 4073 - Roadblock by Macclesfield Canal
Please read our guidance about the use of Cheshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
The site of a roadblock dating from the Second World War. The roadblock was located on a lane between Shoresclough Farm and a swing bridge across the Macclesfield Canal.
Road blocks were usually a combination of moveable and stationary objects, either on or built into roads and bridges, that could be used to stop or divert any enemy vehicles. They often incorporated steel bars, concrete blocks and barbed wire. It is part of the Western Command Stop Line Number 6, which was a line of defences that would hold up enemy forces in the event of an invasion, and allow the armed forces to move around behind the line and concentrate forces on the enemy.
