Summary

This is a small, square, sunken pillbox at the ‘Flower Patch’, Littleton. It has a very low profile and seems to have open sides, rather than embrasures (small rectangular openings in walls that allowed soldiers in the pillbox to shoot at, or observe, the enemy). It is on the South side of the A51(T) road and covers the route to Chester from the East, and is part of the City of Chester's Defences. It was built during World War Two.

Sunken Square pillbox in the 'Flower Patch', Littleton. It has four large apertures which are at ground level. A concrete roof is supported by a brick column at each corner. It is located on the south side of the A51(T) road and covers the route to Chester from the East. In the City of Chester defences.

The structure is clearly visible on aerial photographs dating from 4th September 1940.

It has a very low profile and seems to have open sides, rather than embrasures. It shares the low profile and open sided characteristics with five other similar structures located to the south and east of Chester.

This structure has a marked similarity to type 6n, open topped pillboxes, known from RAF Woodford (CHER 4058/0/0), the coast north of Liverpool and Dover.
