Full Description
Thieve’s Hole, a complex area of quarrying. Hollows and hummocky ground within a triangular area of woodland, which outlines an area of quarrying, first indicated on the 1842 map. Overgrown spoil covers some low exposed quarry faces, some with herring-bone pickwork. The road to Edge House pre-dates some of the quarrying as it is built on a causeway with walled edges to the north end. Small scale quarrying continues on the opposite side of the road. The origin of the name is unknown. Thieves Hole or Hollow features in the Wizard Legend of Alderley (1).
