Full Description

Site of moat. There was a moat on the east side of the village, c.200 yds east of the parish church. The moat is now filled up, but there are indications of its site at the side of the highway and in the farmyard adjoining. It is probable that it once contained the mansion of the knightly family of Le Roter (1). Traces of the moat existed in the form of a pond to the NW of the farm buildings. By 1958 this pond had been filled in and the ground levelled. No trace of moat by 1964 (2).
