Summary

A four-faced hollowed sandstone vessel found in Widnes. Apparently one male and three female faces are to be found on the sides of the artefactl. The style is reminiscent of the large group of stone heads found in Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.

Full Description

A four-faced hollowed sandstone vessel found in Widnes. Apparently one male and three female faces are to be found on the sides of the artefact. It may possibly have been used as a mortar or a finial. It is now at Hale in Liverpool (1). The style is reminiscent of the large group of stone heads found in Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.
