Summary

A head has been built into the concrete repair of an aqueduct under the Bridgewater Canal. It is approximately 8 inches tall. It appears to belong to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.

Aqueduct at Little Bollington. A head has been built into the concrete repair of an aqueduct under the Bridgewater Canal (built in the early 18th century). Approximately 8 inches by 6 inches (1). It appears to belong to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.
