Full Description
Carved Stone Head purchased by a London Art dealer from a house sale near Wilmslow. It measures 9 inches by 7.5 inches. It has been sensitively carved with a hollow crown (possibly a coronet)/ font head. There is thick hair carved all over the head and the base which is a wide plinth. Possibly a post medieval piece carved in the Celtic tradition (1). It belongs to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period. The national grid reference given is centred to the civil parish of Wilmslow.
