Summary

Carved stone face cut into a rock outcrop. Stylised eyes nose and mouth depicted, deeply incised into the stone. It belongs to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.

Full Description

Carved stone face cut into a rock outcrop on the summit of the plateau called ‘the Cloud’. Approximately 6 inches square, with stylised eyes nose and mouth depicted, deeply incised into the stone. Unusually, the facial features are not bounded (1). It belongs to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.
