Please read our .

Summary

Five red sandstone heads. Four have squared sides, one has very primitive features and looks more like a free standing head but is carved on to a sharp square block the same as the others. One is a face set an oblong/ oval window(?) carved with radiating lines and is flat at the back and curved at the front. Two are stylistically medieval or later. They belong to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.

Five red sandstone heads. Four have squared sides suggesting they have had some architectural use. One has primitive features and looks more like a free standing head than a corbel but is carved on to a sharp square block the same as the others. One is a face set an oblong/ oval auriol (?) carved with radiating lines. It is flat at the back and curved at the front. Two are stylistically medieval or later. All are sharply carved with chisel marks still clear. Believed to be from the Warrington area as the red sandstone would suggest. Additionally, the current owner was given them by a friend who lived in Lower Walton, Warrington. Now in Menai bridge, Anglesey.
