Summary

A carved stone head found in a stream near Congleton. It is rather worn but can be said to be ‘Celtic’ in style. It has a slit mouth, rectangular nose and large lentoid eyes which are all quite crudely incised. It belongs to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.

Full Description

A carved stone head found in a stream near Congleton. It is rather worn but can be said to be ‘Celtic’ in style. Slit mouth, rectangular nose and lentoid eyes all crudely executed. Now privately owned (1). It belongs to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period. There is no known National Grid Reference to this find.
