Full Description
Carved face in low relief on a block of local sandstone found by a JCB whilst excavating a drive, at Utkinton. The dimensions are 17cm high by 13cm wide. The painted face has oval eyes and a moustache. Most probably medieval in date. It belongs to a large group of stone heads from Britain which on stylistic grounds are termed 'Celtic', but which show continuity into the Post Medieval period.
